Since the beginning of reform and opening up, more and more merchants participated in the Canton Fair, and the problem of food and housing became more and more prominent. If Guangzhou could not arrange, they could only go to Foshan, Panyu, Conghua and other places around Guangzhou at that time, but the transportation was very inconvenient at that time. Therefore, from 1979 to 1984, a large number of hotels were built and transformed in Guangzhou. In the 1980s, the earliest five-star standard hotel White Swan Hotel in the mainland opened. In the early 1990s, the White Swan Hotel, China Hotel, Oriental Hotel and Garden Hotel in Guangzhou became the national five-star hotel evaluated by the National Tourism Administration. Guangzhou was also the city with the largest number of five-star hotels at that time.
