The two sides had a frank and in-depth exchange of views on sea related issues, stressed the full implementation of the important consensus reached in the recent phone call between the leaders of the two countries, and strive to build the East China Sea into a sea of peace, cooperation and friendship. The two sides confirmed that they would abide by the spirit of the four point consensus on principles between China and Japan, strengthen dialogue and consultation on sea related affairs, constructively control contradictions and differences, promote practical cooperation in defense, environmental protection, search and rescue, fisheries, disaster prevention and personnel exchanges, enhance mutual understanding and trust, reduce doubts, misunderstandings and misjudgments, and maintain peace and stability at sea. China reiterates its solemn position on the Diaoyu Islands and the East China Sea, and urges Japan to earnestly respect China's sovereignty and security concerns and not to take actions that may complicate the situation.
The two sides made positive comments on the video talks of the heads of delegation and agreed to continue to give full play to the role of the main channel of sea related communication and dialogue of the high level consultation on ocean affairs and strive to hold the 13th round of the plenary meeting of the China Japan high level consultation on ocean affairs within this year.
