The FBI announced on the 16th that the identity of the suspect in the hostage taking case of a synagogue in Texas the day before: a British citizen.
According to US media reports, the suspect recently entered the United States, bought a gun on the street, lived in a homeless shelter for several days, and demanded the release of a Pakistani woman serving a heavy sentence when taking hostages.
[legal entry]
The FBI said the suspect was Malik Faisal Akram, 44. British police said Akram came from Blackburn in northwest England.
Akram hijacked four people, including a Jewish cleric, in a synagogue in coliville, a suburb of Fort Worth. During the standoff, a hostage was released. About 11 hours after the hijacking, law enforcement officers launched a rescue operation, Akram died, and the remaining three hostages were rescued safely.
The Associated Press reported from an unnamed law enforcement officer that Akram entered from New York about two weeks ago. Another U.S. official said Akram entered the country legally with a visa. A law enforcement officer told CNN that Akram was not on the "blacklist" of U.S. and British security agencies.
The director of a homeless shelter in Texas said that Akram had stayed in the shelter for three nights a week before the incident, and there was nothing suspicious.
U.S. President Joseph Biden said that "it is said that" Akram bought the guns held during hostage taking on the street. A law enforcement official told the associated press that Akram's gun was believed to have been purchased from private hands.

According to several media reports, Akram asked the US side to release AFIA Sidiki, a Pakistani woman detained in Fort Worth federal prison.
Two U.S. officials told CNN that at Akram's request, a well-known Jewish cleric in New York called him. Akram told the latter that siddiki was "framed" and jailed.
Siddiki is a neuroscientist with a degree in biology and mental science from MIT and Brandeis University. He was wanted by the FBI for terrorism in 2004 and arrested in Afghanistan in 2008. During her interrogation, she grabbed a gun and shot at interrogators such as U.S. military and FBI personnel. In 2010, she was sentenced to 86 years in prison for attacking U.S. personnel.
U.S. prosecutors said the items siddiki carried when she was arrested showed that she was suspected of being associated with the plot to launch an attack on the United States. The items include paper with words such as "large-scale random attack" and "dirty bomb", as well as some landmarks of the United States.
Siddiqui's relatives and friends insisted that she was innocent and "had no connection" with any terrorist organization such as Al Qaeda. "The charges charged did not even involve terrorism" and she was a victim of the so-called "war on terror" of the United States.
Sidiki's family also denied that one of her husbands was the nephew of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the main planner of the US "9 / 11" attack, and questioned how she could have the opportunity to seize the gun and shoot in the presence of several US military and FBI interrogators.
Siddiki's supporters often hold protests inside and outside the United States. CNN once reported that the petition for Siddiqui's release on the White House website was signed by more than 100000 people in a few weeks.
Terrorist organizations such as the Pakistani Taliban have also offered to exchange hostages for siddiji's release. However, siddiki's family believes that such actions by extremist and terrorist organizations have ulterior motives.
[mental patient]
Akram claimed to be Sidiki's brother. However, siddiji's lawyer denied Akram's statement, said siddiji had "absolutely no" connection with the incident and condemned it.
Gulebar, who claims to be Akram brothers, posted on the social media home page of the local Muslim community in Blackburn, saying that Akram had a history of mental illness.
Gulebar said that during the hijacking, his family had been at the Blackburn police station to keep in touch with Akram, negotiators and FBI personnel, but "no matter what we say and do, we can't persuade him to surrender".
"As a family member, we do not support any of his actions and would like to sincerely apologize to all the victims of this unfortunate incident." Gulebar wrote.
The kidnapped Jewish cleric Charlie zitron Walker said in a statement that "in the last hour, the gunmen became more aggressive and ferocious".
CNN reported that during the hostage taking, Akram repeatedly expressed his intention to "die" when talking with the outside world. A law enforcement officer disclosed that he asked Sidi to be sent to the church, and the two could "die together".
U.S. law enforcement has not yet announced the cause of Akram's death.
Zitron Walker attributed the escape of him and other hostages to previous emergency training: "if we are not instructed, we will not be ready to take action and escape when (favorable) situations arise."
Biden and British Foreign Secretary Elizabeth trass called the incident an act of terrorism.
The FBI said there was "no sign" that other people were involved in hostage taking. British police issued a statement on the evening of 16, saying that anti-terrorism police had detained two teenagers for questioning. (end) (special feature of Xinhua News Agency)
