Original title: Ministry of Foreign Affairs: in terms of traceability, the United States is the least public and the most opaque
On August 30, foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin chaired a regular press conference.
A reporter asked: it is understood that the meeting of the biological weapons convention will be held today. In 2001, the United States exclusively withdrew from the negotiation process of the agreed multilateral verification mechanism for biological weapons, and has been exclusively opposed to the resumption of negotiations so far. What is China's comment on this?
Wang Wenbin said that as you mentioned, the BWC conference will be held from today. China has always firmly upheld the purposes and objectives of the biological weapons convention. Like most countries, China advocates the establishment of a multilateral verification mechanism within the framework of the Convention to supervise and verify all countries, which is the most effective way to ensure compliance and build mutual trust. At this meeting, China will again call for the resumption of negotiations on the verification mechanism. I believe the vast majority of countries will put forward the same idea.
In fact, the United States is the country with the largest and most opaque biological militarization activities in the world. If the United States had not withdrawn exclusively from the agreed negotiation process in 2001 and has so far exclusively opposed the resumption of negotiations, this mechanism should have been established long ago, and the biological activities of various countries, including laboratory activities, could be subject to multilateral supervision and verification. It is noteworthy that in recent years, the United States has repeatedly advocated the investigation of China's laboratories on the issue of COVID-19's traceability, which is contrary to the us stand so far in the verification of biological laboratories. Since the United States previously claimed that the activities in the biological field were technically unverifiable, the request to investigate Wuhan laboratory was purely political blackmail. Conversely, if the United States believes that the investigation of Wuhan laboratory is feasible, there is no reason to oppose the establishment of a multilateral biological verification mechanism, let alone refuse to open the fort Detrick base and more than 200 biological laboratories around the world to the investigation of the international community. This self contradictory approach of the US side shows that the so-called openness and transparency claimed by the US side is just a lie. The United States itself is the least open and most opaque in tracing the source and establishing a multilateral verification mechanism for biological weapons.
